This makes a lovely compote for early autumn.
Ingredients
- 6 pears peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 star anise
- 1 lb blackberries
- 6 oz caster sugar
- 1 stick cinnamon stick

Instructions
- Put all the ingredients into a saucepan and add 5 fl oz water.
- Set over a low heat and cover. Cook for about five minutes, stirring once or twice, until the sugar dissolves and the blackberry juice begins to flow.
- Continue to cook over a low heat until the pears are very tender- the tipe taken will depend on how ripe the pears are.
- Serve hot or cold with ice ceam, clotted cream, custard or some greek yoghurt.
