Cheesy Polenta with Curried Onions (4)

Another unusual combination from Ixta Belfrage in ” Mezcla”. The onions can be used in other recipes too- they can be served as a dip mixed with labne or yoghurt, spooned on top of sour cream topped baked potatoes, over eggs or in sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs. This recipe can be served as part of a vegetarian spread or with sausages.

Eggs Benedict Strata (6-8)

Everybody loves Eggs Benedict, but lets face it making the Hollandaise Sauce can be a bit of a faff especially when you are hungover and hungry. This recipe is a riff on the traditional version from ” Notes from a Small Kitchen Island” by Debora Robertson. This savoury bread and butter pudding is even better if prepared the day before and then cooked the following day. If you like you can add some halved cherry tomatoes to the mixture and/ or serve rashers of crisp bacon and sizzling sausages alongside. And of course Bloody Mary’s to accompany – or Virgin Mary’s if preferred.

Smoked Haddock in Tarragon Cream (2)

My latest cookbook purchase is the excellent “Notes from a Small Kitchen Island” by Debora Robertson. Debora lived in Stoke Newington until recently( she has now moved to France) and in one of the chapters she writes about the area. It brought back many happy memories for me as i lived in “Stokey ” for 30 years before moving back to the South West. This brunch or lunch is based on a starter from a wine bar called The Fox Reformed, another place of happy memories as i held my wedding reception there.
