Apple Crumble (4)

Both my good friend Sherry and my brother Andy have apple trees in their gardens and this year we have received many apples from both- hence we are beginning to try out various recipes for apple crumble. This is a pretty good basic one. You might want to add more or less sugar, i have reduced by 1/4 from the original recipe here.

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 C, Gas 5.
  2. Cut the apples into chunks and put into a pan with the sugar and water. Cook over a low heat for 5 minutes then tip into a small ovenproof dish.
  3. Put the flour and oats into a mixing bowl and mix well. Cut the butter into small cubes and add to the oats and flour. Mix with your fingertips until it resembles an even crumb mixture then add the sugar and mix through.
  4. Cover the fruit with the crumble mixture. Put into the oven and bake for about 20 minutes until the crumble is golden and the apple hot.
